"I Wanna Be A Plumber!!!"

I was sitting at work on Tuesday and I got an IM from Auri... I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something to the effect of "The basement flooded." They have a sump pump and she thought it was overloaded, and thus flooded the basement. She borrowed a shop-vac from a friend to started cleaning up the water, and a few hours later I got another IM that said, "The fucking basement flooded again." So, at first she thought it was the sump pump, but she had an epiphany after the second round of flooding and realized the sump pump wasn't the culprit. The main drain from the kitchen meets up with the drain from the laundry room and somewhere down the line below the laundry room, the pipe was clogged. Trent had turned on the kitchen sink, and within minutes, green onion peels were floating on the floor in the laundry room. I had an appointment downtown at 6 PM, so I offered to come over and help her after I was done. I ran home, ate, changed, grabbed us a couple of chais, and headed over to her house. In the meantime she had gone to Home Depot and rented a fan and a plumbing snake. She also grabbed some plastic storage bins to move the Christmas decorations into because the boxes they were in got wet. When I got over there she was tacking the carpet back down in Taryn's room and she put me to work on clearing out the Christmas decorations from the closet under the stairs. Auri finished in Taryn's room and came back into the laundry room to get started with the roto rooter/plumbing snake. I told her to call a plumber earlier in the day, but she's a take-charge "do-it-yourself" kind of girl. We hoisted the 900 lb. machine onto the top of the washer and she got situated next to it and was ready to go to work. She pulled and pushed and fought with that damn thing for about 45 minutes. I was worried she was going to lose a finger, or a hand, or possibly even her arm. We thought she finally got through the clog so I went upstairs to run some water through the sink. Nothing came back out the other end, so we thought we were good to go. It was in the middle of all of this that she blurted out, "I wanna be a plumber!" It was right after the first time she thought she broke through the clog. In the middle of all of this, she turned to me and said something along the lines of, "And where are all the men in this house???" It was nice of her dad and her husband to leave the two of us alone to use the big scary machine! Anyway, we're strong, independent women and we can handle anything! Too bad we weren't meant to be plumbers... the clog didn't go away and they had more flooding yesterday. She finally called a professional today and got the problem taken care of. The pictures of the plaques are from the walls in her laundry room. They were all very fitting on Tuesday night!

That last one says "Why do I have to get married? I didn't do anything wrong!"

Okay... in all fairness... they did offer to help and I wanted to try and get this part done myself. Anyway... I learned a lot from the plumber. Like the fact that the actual 'clean out' for that pipe is down next to the ground and is much easier to use. oh shwell... next time... The carpet is still drying out. And I think I'll be calling the pros to come tac the carpet back down...

SB - The signs are cute, huh?! I think I bought her the Super Girl one...

Jaime - The guys were at the house, doing their own thing.

Aurs - When is the carpet getting fixed?

Petra - I'm glad we make you hot. We made ourselves hot. I was dripping sweat by the time I left.
