Remember how I said I was feeling crafty the other day? Well, I am so damn proud of myself, I have to share my creation with y'all. I mentioned that I had bought tulle and ribbon to make Taryn a tutu, and I decided I was making it tonight. The picture above is my fabric before I got started. The picture below is of my layers of tulle after I had cut it. I think it only took an hour!
So the tutu is really easy to make, just very time consuming. Well, not THAT time consuming... I think it took me about 3 hours from start to finish. All you need is tulle and a yard or two of ribbon. I got 2 yards each of 3 different colors of tulle and 2 yards of ribbon just to be safe. The tutu is for a 2 year old, so I thought I had more than enough. I ended up using all of it, but after the fact, realized I didn't need to.
The picture above is after I had tied about 8 pieces of tulle. I pinned the ribbon at each end to the table (the card table I worked on has a cushy top so the pins stuck in it easily) to hold it in place while I tied the tulle around the ribbon. I ended up using the whole length of the strips of tulle but after I'd finished, I realized it was way too long.
After I got all the tulle tied around the ribbon, I layed the whole thing over the back of the chair and tried to separate the pieces from being tangled. Since it was obviously way too long for a 2 year old, I cut about half the length of tulle off. It looked much better after that.

Tulle, Ribbon, and Tutus
Heres what the waist looks like. I think it's cute! I think I'll make one for myself. Not sure where I'll wear it, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. Maybe I can use it for my comeback to dancing that I mentioned in an earlier post.
And this is the final project. Isn't it fabulous? I hope Taryn likes it. If not, maybe Auri can wear it in place of her Mistress costume. Carrying on with my craft week theme, tomorrow night I'm learning to crochet. Again. I bought some gorgeous yarn today and I'm excited to make myself something with it!

It's beautiful!! I bet Taryn will LOVE it :)
Wow, I wouldn't even know where to start making a tutu! That's fab. I'm sure that once Taryn puts it on - she will refuse to take it off.
:) CW
Thanks girls! It really was very easy. Just time consuming. Maybe if I start now, I'll have one made for myself for Halloween!
We have to get started now! I can't wait to be ballerina's for Halloween! We will be fabulous!!!
So perfect for any girl, do they come in my size?
You'll all be happy to know that Taryn won't take it off! She calls it her "bal-rina tutu" and she loves to spin around and ruffle it up. I sent erica pics so we should be seeing some soon. You are so crafty woman! I love it!!
