I Gave In

Remember how I told you (a few months ago) that I may have a slight (read: massive) obsession with the new show True Blood, on HBO? Well, the obsession took over and I bought the first book (that the series is based on), got addicted, and subsequently bought the other 7. (They're technically called the Southern Vampire Series, or Sookie Stackhouse novels). I started reading the books in October and just finished the last one on Sunday. I think I've taken my sweet time with them because I got so wrapped up with the characters that I didn't want the books to end. Well, my life was threatened if I didn't finish the last book (so that I may discuss it with the girls at the nail salon I go to) and I stubbornly finished it, finally. So there, Kersten!

Anyway... I've been aware of all the hype surrounding the Twilight series, partly because everyone and their dog has read it, and because the author is (or was) from Utah and went to one of our Universities. I've been hesitant to read the books because I knew there wouldn't be any great sex like there was in the other novels. And come on, we all need a dose of good sex whether we're participating or just reading about it. I've also been hesitant because I knew the books were written for adolescents and I just wasn't interested in them.
I don't know if it was my grief in finishing the Sookie books, or if I was just so curious that I couldn't hold out anymore, but I finally gave in, and started reading Twilight. I'm a sell-out, I know, but it's good, damnit, so leave me alone. It may be that I know the premise of the book and I want to know details, or that I'm just now obsessed with vampires, but I can't put the book down. I'm halfway through it and hope to have it finished in the next couple of days. I'll let you know my verdict when I'm done!

I think Twighlight gives us something better than great sex! Tell me if I am wrong when you are done! I love it, like you loved the other series. I never wanted it to end. HATE the movie, don't go see it, don't pollute your mind! The book takes you to a very happy place, and Stephanie does a great job of luring you in until you can't put it down. Can't wait to chat with you about your feeling on it. I L-O-V-E it! Now, I need to read your series, I have been looking for something to take the place of the void in my life since I read Breaking Dawn in 3 days. (yess, over 900 pages! Look at what you have to look forward too.

oh-oh watch out for the huge circles under the eyes when you can't put the book down at bedtime :)

So I went about it the opposite way...read Twilight series first and loved it. Then started watching True Blood, then read the books. I have to say, as good as Twilight was, Sookie is just more fun to read about! But I definitely share the vampire obsession with you :)

Seriously, girls, it's addicting. I never thought I could get pulled in, but I have. Last night I read the part where he took her home and finally went inside the house with her... hid from her dad... reappeared after she got ready for bed.... spent the night watching her sleep... told her she was now his life... I started crying. It's such an amazingly human love affair that so accurately portrays our need for love, and touch, and companionship. Whew... I can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm okay with no sex in the book...leaves you to your imagination. Just found your blog :)

Thanks for stopping by the blog, Julie! You'll love the Southern Vampire Series. Very funny... very sexy. Totally entertaining, but totally different than Twilight! Let me know what you think when you're done!
