Am I the only one who doesn't know where all the states in the US are located? When in conversation someone mentions a specific city or state, do you think to yourself, "Hmm, well, I know the approximate location of that place in the country," but could never point it out on a map?
If not, I guess I'm the only one.

(I had a bigger version of this originally but it wouldn't fit on the page... sorry it's so small!)
When it comes down to it, I know the general location of most states... north, south, east, west... but anything east beyond Colorado (minus the immediately surrounding areas of Alabama) is up for grabs.
Even worse, since 7th grade world geography, which was approximately 17 or 18 years ago (holy shit I feel old) so much has changed, and sadly, I haven't kept up with it all. I'm gonna have to start learning things all over again.
I've also become interested in the geography of the South... mostly because when I'm in the plane flying over things, I want to know what I'm looking at. And, I usually have no clue.
In any case, I'm going to make a concerted effort to re-learn US geography, brush up on world geography and try to learn some of the main points of interest down south!
So seriously, how would you all rate your own geography skills?

Its difficult for me when I look out the window of the plane because all the states are similar colors. Why don't the states color themselves like they do on the maps so we can tell them apart?
Haha to Robert's comment!
I think I'm fairly comfortable with my geography skillz, but admittedly, the northeast confuses me.
Oh, and anything north of Bountiful. Even though I went to Weber (in Ogden and Layton for school).
Spawn has a geography book, if you'd like to borrow it! :)
Come on Erica, even I know where Alabama is!
(But that might be because I'm obsessed with the US and always looking at maps to plan where I'm going next!)
A+. I'm not a teacher for nothing!
I am HOPELESS when it comes to the states. Like...embarrassing and shocking hopeless.
My domestic and European geography skills are good (I actually bought a card game to help). Southeast Asia is fair, but Africa is a disaster for me.
Canadian Georgraphy= Easy!
American Geography= Not so much. Learned the whole US map in 5th grade but now its all gone.
Everything in the middle has always been a muddled mess to me.... except over the last couple years, with learning other bloggers' locations, I've begun to learn where a lot of places are geographically located. Blogging is good for something!
My geography is ok and I love to look at maps. They are so fascinating. I love to travel too, so that helps me to figure everything out! Wait until you have kids. You will learn it all again. Now Grace is in school, I never felt so stupid. She is way smarter then me already....and that is just kindergaten.
Oooh probably not so good. I only know the main island of Java in Indonesian map. Probably Bali too. Then I don't know about remaining ones so well :p
Bring it on batch! Just kidding but I teach this, or should if I wasn't too busy teaching only math and language arts, but that is another story! You will learn my little one, you will learn...
on a scale of 1-10? 10 being great knowledge, 1 being none???
I would give myself a solid 1. Ayup. I suck. BAAAD.
Geography is NOT my strong suit. I've always been terrible at it. I don't even have a sense of where states are; I barely have a concept of what my own country looks like.
