A week or two ago I mentioned that I want to paint my house... the inside, not the outside. I've been to look at paint samples at least three times since I moved into my house, and with Jessica's help, finally decided on two colors... they're kind of a brownish taupe. I was originally thinking of painting the two walls facing each other one color, and the opposite two walls the other color. The problem with that is I have rounded corners and taping them off is going to be a pain in the ass. The other problem is that if I extend the paint into the hallway, there's no logical stopping point which means I'm going to end up painting the hallway, up the stairwell and the hallway on the 2nd floor. So, I guess I'll start with one accent wall and then go from there... I'm sure I'll end up painting the whole damn house by the time I'm done!
In addition to painting the main floor, I've also decided to install a backsplash in the kitchen. Lisa and I went to look at tile a couple of weeks ago and this is what I decided on. It's kind of sparkly and fits perfectly! Lisa is going to help me do it (and I'm sure the rest of the girls will as well) and that way it'll only end up costing me about $300. I'm so excited to get it done!
The last thing I want to do in the kitchen is add handles to the cabinets and drawers. I haven't decided on anything yet, but something like the picture to the left seems to strike my fancy. I'll definitely go with the stainless steel or brushed nickel option, but I'm not sure if I like the linear look or something more curved. What do you guys think?
I ended up finding a really cool abstract painting at Home Goods a few weeks ago and am planning on hanging it in the family room. I'm also planning on buying a neutral colored slip cover for the couch... because it's kinda ugly. Then Jess suggested I find some funky fabric and buy some over-stuffed pillows and she is going to make me some pillow covers. I'm very excited for how it's all going to turn out!
My biggest problem with decorating is making decisions because I can't quite picture what things are going to look like. I guess I'm going to have to trust my designer (Jessica) and go with it. I'll take pics and let you know how it turns out!

I'm right there with you... I can never "see it". I always need someone with an eye for color and decor to help me out. So frustrating! But I really love that back splash... I think it'll just make your kitchen shine and sparkle! Can't wait to see the final outcome :D
i'm looking to purchase a house/condo here within the next few months and all i can think about is how i am going to decorate it - i'm so excited!
Thanks for the plug there missy. Hopefully everything turns out the way you want it. I have an idea for the hardware for your cabinets. I'll see if I can find a picture. You can count on my help for the all of the manual labor. It's going to look amazing. Your house, not the manual labor.
I hate painting.
Donno. maybe because it is drab here in Oregon so much of the year, I like to use bold colors rather than "neutral" colors (taupe, beige, etc.) Having an accent wall be a bright color makes a room seem brighter, if not more imaginative.
I remember when we got this southwest desert red for our accent wall. The woman at the paint store actually thanked us!!! She said she gets so tired of selling eggshell and beige paint.
just make sure you're getting some color in there, lady. your life is not meant to be taupe.
Remember that if you choose something like that for your hardware on the cabinets you will have to drill 2 holes instead of one for a knob type...something to think about whe doing it yourself. If you are hiring it out...sky is the limit baby!
Can't wait to get started on that backsplash!
The backsplash is great!!
I'm a fan of linear hardware. Classy and shiek! :)
Brooke - I seriously hate being "blind" like this! Good thing I have some friends with a knack for this.
Alexa - The hard part is once you're in your own place, you've got no money left over to decorate!
Jessica - I think the manual labor will look amazing. I mean come on, all of us in our grubby clothes with bandanas on and painting. It'll be hot.
Captain - I've only painted once and I had fun... this may change my mind.
Robert - I figured more neutral walls downstairs would allow me to have fun accent colors and would be easier to change up. I'm going to do a really funky wall in my bedroom!
Kara - This canvas painting I've got is really bright, there won't be a lack of color, I promise.
Lisa - Good point, I'll keep that in mind... maybe those on the drawers and knobs on the cabinets?
SB - I think I'm more excited about the backsplash than the painting.
