Now I'm warning you, this next part is extremely embarrassing, so do not, under any circumstances, make fun of me for it!
So, we all pile into Saeed's cab and tell him we want to go down to the water/over by the bridge. We got all the formalities out of the way, "Hi, how are you?" "We're good thanks." "Where are you from?" "I'm from Pakistan, where are you guys from?" "We're from Utah, but we're not Mormons." "Oh, good, because I'm not a terrorist!" We knew at that point that we were in good hands... we were with someone who had a sense of humor! So, we're driving along, driving along, and every time we go over a bump, or go around a corner, I notice a metal-on-metal sound coming from what seems to be the rear left side of the car... approximately over the wheel well. I try not to think about it and hope no one else can hear it. As we continue on our mini tour of the area near the Golden Gate Bridge, I'm hearing the noise more often and it seems to be getting louder. By this time, Noelle had noticed it as well, we both looked at each other after going over a particularly bump in the road, our eyes got really big, and we started cracking up. In the meantime, neither one of us said anything to the others, but pretty soon, Jen figured out what we were laughing at. Let me tell you, this was the most hideous sound you've ever heard... the car apparently has no shocks left and all we hear is the car bouncing up and down, and the metal-on-metal screeching every time the car makes any type of movement other than driving forward on completely flat and smooth road. Noelle and I kept looking at each other and were absolutely horrified worrying about what Saeed thought of us... Keep in mind, this was a mini tour of San Fran... it turned out to be a $45 cab ride, so it was by no means, short in duration.
One part I forgot... we were going around a corner and there was a small family starting to cross the road. I'm guessing Saeed didn't see them? Anyway, Rose hangs out the window and says something to the effect of, "Hey, how are ya? Sorry, have a nice day!" Pretty funny, but you had to be there because it just doesn't sound as funny reading about it.
We got back to the base of Powell and Market Street and had him drop us off. I got out of that cab as fast as I could so as to avoid one more minute of embarrassment. I'm sure he and his cab were happy when we all got out. I mean come on, together we weigh a lot! Not something to be proud of! The four of us walked back toward the hotel and stopped on the corner to buy some more liquor and some mixers. We made our way back to the Diva, dropped off our stuff, and met up with the other chiquitas in their room for pre-party drinking. Noelle started mixing drinks (bad idea) and we finished off the bottle of Absolut and started on some Malibu, and something else... I think. Earlier in the day we had decided to make a reservation for the seven of us to have dinner back at the Steps of Rome because Noelle and I loved it so much. I think we made the reservation for 8:30 or 9ish, so we drank until it was time to start getting ready. Noelle and I headed to our room to get ready and wait for Jen...Prior to this, Noelle and I
decided we were having an intervention with Jen and we were going to do her hair and makeup before we went out that evening. I was surprised that she very ungrudgingly agreed. It may have been the alcohol, I'm not sure, but either way, it was a good experience. I found out that I can apply makeup when I'm drunk. Jen found out that a girl doesn't necessarily have to wear a lot of makeup and can still have her features pop!
The seven of us headed downstairs once we were all ready and instead of trying to pile into another minivan, we got two cabs. Rose, Jen & I got into a cab with a veteran driver. I can't remember his name, but the man drove extremely fast and had us to the restaurant in less than five minutes, I'm sure. I think we waited almost ten minutes for the others to get there. They
apparently got into a cab with a newbie cab driver and it took them a little longer than it normally would have. While waiting in front of the restaurant, the host asked if he could get us a table and I told him we had a reservation. He said he'd been waiting for us all night! Ha! He was cute though, so who cares! I think I'll end this here and finish with Part 7... dinner and our departure!
